Well, it looks like summer is here to stay for a while.   While extreme weather can always affect our pets, and is something to watch out for, sometimes just the normal sunny summer days can cause problems as well.  So a few things to remember in caring for your pet in the summer months…

Never leave a dog alone in a car – Temperatures can reach 120 degrees in just a matter of minutes.

Make sure your pet has access to plenty of water, even on a walk – take some with you!

If you leave your pet outside, make sure it has access to some shady areas.

If they have long hair, maybe give them a short trim for the summer.

Food – Give your dog 10% less food than you normally would and give the meals at cooler times of the day such as in the morning and evening.

On walks, watch their paws on the asphalt – they could get burned!

Just a few things to keep in mind as you enjoy the nice weather with your pets.  Stay safe!
